Our review

Authentic Hutong-style Chinese BBQ in Oak Bay! 🇨🇳 We wanted to switch things up and try something packed with flavor, so we headed over to @littleskewerbar (📍1871 Oak Bay Ave, Victoria, BC). If you're craving authentic Northern Chinese street-style skewers, savory noodle bowls, or comforting fried rice, this spot brings the real-deal taste right to town. Taking a toddler to an authentic spot can sometimes feel a bit daunting, but it is totally doable here with a couple of quick parenting hacks! They do not have a dedicated kids' menu, but you can easily ask the kitchen to completely tone down or remove the spice on specific dishes so you can safely share with your little ones. Passing around some mild noodles, fried rice, and mild skewers made it a really fun, shared family eating experience. They also mentioned having patio dining, but we couldn't actually spot it while we were there, so keep that in mind if you are hoping for an outdoor breeze! ----- Here is the official parenting breakdown of our experience: ꕤ Table for Three Scorecard ꕤ 🚪 ACCESS: Right on Oak Bay Avenue. Street parking can be a little busy depending on the time of day, but the space itself is easy to get into. 🛋️ VIBE: Casual, cozy, and straightforward. It has a great neighborhood feel where you can just focus on enjoying a mountain of delicious food. 🚼 FACILITIES: They have a sturdy high chair ready to go for you, which is great! However, they do not have a proper changing table or family pod in the washrooms, so plan your diaper changes accordingly. 🦖 CHAOS TOLERANCE: Good! It’s a very welcoming environment, and sharing small bites and finger-food skewers is an easy way to keep a toddler highly entertained and busy at the table. 🌿 WIND-DOWN SPOT: Since we couldn’t find the patio to step onto for a breather, your best bet is a quick post-meal stroll down Oak Bay Ave to check out the local shop windows or find a nearby green patch. ----- 📢 SHARE this with a foodie parent who loves authentic flavors, SAVE this for your next Oak Bay dinner plan, and FOLLOW along for more honest, toddler-friendly restaurant reviews!
